My interpretation:

This song is about someone taking control of their own life. They have been under the influence of other forces like society, what they should and shouldn't do, etc. and have finally realized that they can take control over their own life:

If God put in our hands
All of this power
I believe that we can rule

might mean "we all have the power within us to rule our own lives"

The person being referred to is the one who helped him realize that. This could be a male or female. "You alone could save my soul" shows that this is more than a love song. When this person "Saves the world" they are saving that person's world by making them real that the games of the world are not what's real.
