cornbread is defaintely one of his best new songs
i love dave to death and im telling u outta all the songs i've heard him play live this song at saratoga springs was absoutely one of the most incredible songs ive heard him play live it made me just wanna get up and dance on stage with him lol *as does every song* so amazing..
if anyone went to that show…how awesome was it? …im telling you it was one of the best ive been to and ive been to many =D

Give me some ACCURATE examples of the lyrics and the situations surrounding them, in detail, and then maybe I will agree with you. Of all the previous comments, there still isn't a clear piece of evidence that links him with a specific person. All of you are guessing and interpreting his lyrics (which is not a bad thing because that is the purpose of the lyrics). It still doesn't mean that he is talking about a specific person of a certain age and it doesn't mean that the song or songs ie. Idea of You and Cornbread evolved from his personal feelings. It could still originate as an idea from something he saw or a conversation he overheard. One comment was about Jo possibly going to bed with him. HUH? He may be a flirt but I am sure he knows when to draw the line. Your quote "It isn't anyone thinking it is all about them …" maybe you should reread some of the previous comments again.

Sorry Jules but there is proof he is sings improv'd lyrics of real people (such as Jo and another) and real situations around him. If you follow DMB and Dave's improv's closely you would know or understand. It isn't anyone thinking it is all about them but wondering why he is suinging those words and to whom.

Anyone, if they try hard enough, can probably see themselves in the lyrics of any of his songs, even if the lyrics aren't about them at all. I am sure all songs are open to interpretation. EG.-Younger girl, older girl, same age girl, different fans have different ideas, which is fine … but to say this song or that song is about "me" personally or about my interaction with him or about the "same girl", I think is being a little too hopeful. (particularily if you have a "crush" on David, and there are certainly a lot out there that do!) Also, think about it, isn't it a strong possibility he is not always referring to his own feelings but the personal feelings of a friend or relative? His emotion when singing a song can also come from the way he is feeling that day and not really related to a song. Remember he is an actor! All writers get inspiration from observing people and hearing conversations etc. and that could be how he comes up with some of his songs. Sitting at an outdoor coffee shop watching and listening can give you lots of ideas

Kara knows it isn't about her. She is just curious. He sings this song with a lot of emotion each time so someone evocks the strong feeling and interesting lyrics. I think the lines may have changed to babysitter because he may figured out the girl is the same age or older than he is. I will stick with Kara on this one. I think he keeps singing about the same gal. It definitely has a feel to be about one person. Almost like a dialogue between the two.

It is okay if kara feels like the song is about her- it very well could be. She, i believe, does feel like it is about his personal feelings…for her. Which is fine- and the babysitter thing is a recent addition and not what the song has been about the whole time. Maybe kara is a babysitter and he knows that? There are a few girls I know who have had lyrics of different songs tweaked to fit them, and I actually have a lot of incidences where idea of you fits my experiences with Dave. So, it could be a song to every younger girl he has seen a few times on the road. There are a lot. I know I identify with a lot of the versions…he will see me at a show, and we will have some interaction, and the next time he will sing about it. I am not going to believe that i am the only one he does this with, though…..kara, if you feel like it is about you, feel free to say so!

Kara, is it possible that you think you are the person that he refers to? I can tell you that the song IOY is not about "his" personal feelings for a younger girl …. and I will leave it there. Also, for what it is worth — the last time he sang this song he introduced it with …… "This is a song about my babysitter when I was a kid."

nobody says he's referring to Jo, actually they're saying that he's not — and obscure as his lyrics might seem…i don't think he tries too hard to be that way — its more like he's talking about very specific situations that only those involved would recognize — especially w/ the iou song, i don't know that much about the cornbread one, but it seems like he's singing for the purpose of this girl hearing — 'the words won't come but i wrote this song to make you think that i'm your king' and that he's gonna make her take notice of him and come back to him, and so on
